CTNS was created in 2008 as a non-profit foundation to offer scientific and technological services within the Catalan R+D&I system on nutrition and health.

The CTNS offers to agrofood companies scientific and technological services in the whole value chain regarding food consumption and health, especially in the field of functional foods, products that beyond nourishing, act improving or preventing risk factors for diseases and, therefore, the health and well-being.

The CTNS's working areas include technical assistance, development of RDI projects and technological services, including food safety aspects in accordance with current regulations and testing of the efficacy of functional ingredients, from their extraction to intervention studies in humans. Overall, the ultimate goal is to validate the health claims of foods in accordance with European regulation and make them understandable to the consumer.
